My Abridged Family Tree. (Sort of)

For those of you who still don’t know my name, it’s Drew Marshall Feld. My English name has no special origin. My parents liked the name Drew so they decided to m\name me it. Nothing special. I am glad they named me Drew because it’s not such a common name. It helps people remember my name better because they remember the uniqueness. I would hate to be named David or something like that because it is too common.

My Hebrew name on the other hand, has a very important origin to me. In the Jewish custom, it is a great honor to name your children after their deceased ancestors. It shows great honor to those who died. I was named after my mother’s father, who was hit by a car and killed before I was bor. From what I was told, he was a great man. He gave a lot to charity and actually helped build the Jewish community in New Rochelle. He was the main founder of the first Synagogue there, The Young Israel of New Rochelle. I am very proud to carry his name, Tzvi Elimelech.

Both of my mother’s parents were born in New York. She lived in New York up until the point she got married and then moved to my hometown, LA. My Grandfather on my father’s side was the only person who immigrated to America. He grew up in Poland and just escaped to America before Hitler came and would have sent him to the concentration camp. When deciding where to go in America, he decided to go to the most famous place he knew, LA. There he met my grandmother who, at the time, was acting or a dancer for some show there. So my dad ended up groping up in LA and convinced my mother to move there when they got married. No offense to New Yorkers, but I am so glad I grew up in LA. The sun, the weather, and the people there cannot be beat.
